AVHS joins Regional Efforts to help address pet food needs

What we’re doing to address pet food insecurity during the Covid-19 pandemic

During this unprecedented time in history, when so many people are struggling to make ends meet, Auburn Valley Humane Society has joined an amazing regional effort to ensure pet owners are able to keep their animals happy and healthy by addressing food insecurity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through the generous support of GreaterGood.org, a national nonprofit that protects people, pets and the planet, Seattle Humane worked with a team of shelter partners to create a distribution hub to get GreaterGood.org’s ongoing donations of pet food and supplies to those struggling financially. This rescue bank is also benefiting from the support of its partners and other community supporters, such as PetSmart Charities.

Seattle Humane is working with the Seattle Animal Shelter, Auburn Valley Humane Society, Pasado’s Safe Haven, and Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) to support pet owners during a time when the need is so great. King County has leased a warehouse to store pallets of pet food and supplies, which will be distributed across the state. Together with RASKC, Seattle Humane is providing an updated interactive map (hyperlink here) to help pet owners find distribution sites around the region. Animal shelters and rescues outside King County in need of assistance are encouraged to contact Seattle Humane by emailing Lifesaver@seattlehumane.org.

This regional project to keep pets healthy and well-fed is an amplification of the work Seattle Humane has performed for years through its own Pet Food Bank. Seattle Humane is committed to our 50 community partners and hundreds of individual clients served through our Pet Food Bank, and we want to increase our support as much as possible through this regional partnership. Pet owners who are unable to visit a physical location can visit this link to fill out and submit a Pet Food Bank request form.
